SPRING 2019

stump: metal rebar, galvanized steel mesh, paper mache, resin, wood, couch cushions, sound

crystals: resin, mica powder, puck light

6'x4.5'

When I was a kid, I loved making fairy houses in tree stumps in my backyard, which is where I drew inspiration for this piece. Those little fairy houses would transport me to another world, so I wanted to try and replicate that same feeling towards my audience with this sculpture and completely transform the space surrounding it. Through incorporating light and sound, I will puncture the space of the audience, transcending them into this fantastical realm this ancient tree stump came from. I hope this transformation will encourage those experiencing it to let go of any negativities they currently are holding onto, even if just for a second, and allow themselves to surrender to the wonder of whom this enchanted home belongs.
